Laughing At The Moon Movie Premiere!

At the Pinnacle 18 in Turkey Creek September 9th!

SOMEWHERE in the city, inside a small loft apartment, three unsuspecting people are about to encounter something very strange…but they just might find the meaning of life.

LAUGHING AT THE MOON is a character-driven story about Iris Kreedle.  Iris is an eccentric and altruistic woman who comes to live with a self-absorbed, compulsive and snobby roommate named Natalie, who is her polar opposite.  Iris’ hilarious antics and Christ-like sacrificial lifestyle, slowly but lovingly transform everyone she meets.

S“Laughing At The Moon” is based on a stage play by the same name.  The stage play version came in as top finalist in a nationwide State Theatre, Plays and Playwright Festival Contest.   “Laughing At The Moon” played to sold out crowds in California and North Carolina, receiving rave reviews and touching many lives.

Autism Awareness Month

  • Autism Society of East Tennessee

For more than 40 years, people around the world have celebrated the month of April as National Autism Awareness Month. Though awareness should be acknowledged year-round, we take this month to bring extra attention to promoting what autism is and how others can learn more about it. This year, seven different autism organizations in Knoxville have united as one to show the community that we are all in this together. Autism Society of East Tennessee, Autism Site Knoxville, Artistic Spectrum, Autism Breakthrough, Behavioral Foundations, Cherokee Health Systems, and Knoxville Center for Autism invite you to join them by spreading awareness and showing support for National Autism Awareness Month this April.

The Autism Society of America states on their website, “Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex developmental disability; signs typically appear during early childhood and affect a person’s ability to communicate, and interact with others. ASD is defined by a certain set of behaviors and is a “spectrum condition” that affects individuals differently and to varying degrees. There is no known single cause of autism, but increased awareness and early diagnosis/intervention and access to appropriate services/supports lead to significantly improved outcomes.”

The prevalence of autism spectrum disorder has grown to affect every 1 in 68 children, however numbers and labels do not define an individual. Every case of this developmental disability looks different and no two people are the same, just as with people who do not have autism. In the wise words of Dr. Stephen Shore, “If you’ve met one person with autism, you’ve met one person with autism.” Join us this year as we promote autism awareness and acceptance as a community rather than as individuals.

The Autism Society is the nation’s leading autism organization providing the latest information regarding treatment, education, research, and advocacy. The Autism Society of East Tennessee (ASA-ETC) provides services to 36 counties in East Tennessee. In fall 2015, ASA-ETC created ASDhub, a collaborative community directory and events calendar with the intent to establish unity among autism resources in East Tennessee.
